Vintage Hamra shopping center

This was probably all lit up Las Vegas style in the 1960s. But now the bulbs are burned out and most of the shops have been shuttered.

After taking the photo, some nearby merchants quietly warned me not to enter any further into the vintage shopping center or take more photos as “there is a political party inside” and its henchmen may “take you or your camera.”

  1. The center looks so much better in your photo than in real life čśë
What’s special about this center, is that you can go through it, from Hamra street to Makdessi street (where, of course you will be “welcomed” by the men)

  2. Yes, I realized that later, and probably as a result only a few people benefit from this passage! I wonder if it is the only center on both streets. Would be great to find a picture of how it looked in the glory days.
