Although I tortured the NY Times for their recent coverage of Lebanon, I have to say that the focus on high heels was not entirely exaggerated. So many women in Lebanon seem to be obsessed with them, struggle with them– whether rich or poor, dressed conservatively or flaunting plenty of skin–even during outdoor activities and picnics! It looks very painful frankly, and a bit sad that social norms are preventing so many from walking down the street or climbing stairs in a normal-looking way.
