This is a speed test from the free wifi zone at Amman airport, provided by ISP Zain.

Let’s compare this to the speeds in Beirut airport which only offers 30 minutes of free wifi from leading Lebanese ISP, IDM.

Waiting…

Hmm. I tried three more times but it seems the internet was off.

So let’s compare this free public connection in Amman to my home connection in Beirut.  At 5 mbps download, Jordan airport is 5 times faster than my $100 per month home connection in Beirut. In terms of upload, the airport’s 2mbps connection it is almost 20 times the speed of Beirut.

Over the last six years, Lebanese telecom officials have been promising Lebanon’s internet will be world leading. Seems we have a ways to go.
